Wendell Brace ———— A handbook

The street methods that kept me alive for half of what you pay.

Cut $3,700–$6,500 a year off your heating, water, electric, food, and household bills — using the forty-three methods that homeless survival taught me. 162 pages. No filler. Every page earns its place. Most households earn the $37 back in the first month, just from sealing drafts and switching to zone heating.

Reader results

What people did with the Handbook in the first month.

Three readers, three different houses, three different climates. Each one cut a real bill with a specific method in the book.

Sealed every window in one Saturday with $6 of rope caulk and shrink film. Zone heated the bedroom and living room only. Our heating bill dropped from $287 to $161 the next month. The book paid for itself in three weeks.
— Michael R., Toledo, OH
The $2 meal list alone changed everything. I was spending $14 a day on lunch at work. Started packing overnight oats and wraps. That's $60 a week back in my pocket. The slow cooker chapter handles dinner. I spend less in a month than I used to spend in a week.
— Karen D., Buffalo, NY
Finished it Sunday afternoon. Started sealing windows Monday. Most guides this size would have been three chapters of content buried in 400 pages of stories. This one gives you the fix and moves on. Every chapter is a weekend project with a dollar amount attached. No fluff. The book respects your time.
— James T., Grand Rapids, MI

About the author

Wendell Brace.

Thirty-one years as a pipefitter with Local 120 in Cleveland, Ohio. Boiler rooms, hospitals, refineries — every building that needed heat pushed through walls and floors. Then the layoff came, and he learned all of it over again from the other side of the wall.

Four winters on the street. Gerald, the man who kept him alive that first November, taught him that survival isn't about gear or money. It's about knowing what works and doing it before you need to. Wendell took those methods — the ones nobody writes down because the people who know them don't write books — and put them in order for people who have a roof but want to keep more of their money under it.

This Handbook is the channel content organized. Forty-three methods across seven sections, in the order you should do them, with the materials and the dollar amounts written down. 162 pages because Wendell doesn't believe in writing 600 pages of philosophy around a fix that takes one paragraph to explain. Read it in a weekend, work through the methods, keep the savings forever.

It is not an instruction set for becoming homeless. It is an instruction set for keeping more of what you earn.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask before they click.

Yes. The forty-three methods are written for ordinary North American homes — cold winters, hot summers, dry plains, humid coasts. Each chapter notes which methods work in which climates. The heating section is strongest for cold-climate states. The cooling section is honest about what doesn't work in humidity. Every chapter tells you what it will NOT do.

Most methods require no tools at all. Sealing windows uses a material you press in with your finger. Zone heating means closing doors. The $2 meal list requires one pot. The advanced projects are there for people who want them. The cheap fixes work for everyone.

The first weekend. Window sealing, zone heating, and switching to home-cooked meals produce measurable savings within the first billing cycle. Most households earn the $37 back within the first month from heating changes alone.

Because the methods don't need more. Other guides in this space run 700-900 pages by wrapping each technique in ten pages of history, philosophy, and filler. This Handbook gives you the method, the materials, the cost, and what it will NOT do. One method per chapter, nothing between you and the fix. Most readers finish it in a weekend and start saving the following Monday. The book is short because the work starts when you put it down.

Over half the methods work in rentals without any modification. Window film peels off. Draft stoppers sit on the floor. Cooking methods, hygiene, and the money chapters apply regardless of whether you own or rent.
